Although primarily used to restore deformed teeth, crowns can often be used for cosmetic reasons. However, it is important to note that placing a crown is more invasive than a veneer.

This often means that for many of our patients, porcelain veneers are the first choice for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of the mouth, with crowns being preferred in situations where medical indications.

The main difference to know to distinguish between veneers and crowns is that veneers are used to cover the front of the tooth whereas the crown covers the entire tooth.

When the procedure is performed by a trained cosmetic dentist, distinguishing between the two can be tricky and difficult to spot. In many cases where all crowns are made of metal, it is nearly impossible to differentiate between new and old teeth.
